A lot of people don’t realise how big East Anglia’s offshore wind portfolio actually is. It’s not just one or two farms - there are several major sites already running and more in the pipeline. East Anglia ONE and Galloper have been operating for a while, Greater Gabbard is still expanding its teams, and East Anglia THREE is one of the largest projects of its kind anywhere in the world. And with the Norfolk projects starting to move again, there’s going to be no shortage of work over the next decade and beyond.

This isn’t a short-term trend. Offshore wind is genuinely changing the region’s job market. More people are choosing long-term careers in renewables, and the stability of these projects means the demand for skilled staff isn’t going away.

The work is varied and fast-paced, and good project professionals are always in demand.
  • Planners and Project Controls: With vessels, weather windows, turbine parts, offshore teams and timelines constantly shifting, planners and project controllers are vital. They keep projects realistic, predictable, and doable.
  • Offshore Technicians: Mechanical and electrical technicians who know their way around turbines, substations, switchgear and HV systems. Many of the people in these roles come from oil and gas, industrial engineering, or military engineering backgrounds.
  • HV and Cable Specialists: Cable installation and maintenance is a world of its own. Export and array cables need people who understand high-voltage systems, offshore conditions, and the safety requirements that come with them.
  • Control Room Operators: Every windfarm needs people onshore monitoring performance, weather, alarms, and vessel activity. It’s a key role that keeps everything safe and efficient.
  • HSE Professionals: Offshore work requires a strong safety culture. HSE Advisors, Safety Leads, Environmental Specialists - they’re all essential, from the planning stages right through to day-to-day offshore operations.
  • Fabrication and Skilled Trades: East Anglia’s fabrication yards support a lot of offshore wind work. Coded welders, steel fabricators, technicians - the hands-on roles that keep equipment maintained and ready for offshore use.
  • Logistics and Marine Coordination: Trying to run an offshore project without strong logistics is impossible. We’re talking vessel planning, people movement, scheduling, equipment handling, and all the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the offshore teams going.

And it’s worth saying again: you don’t need offshore wind experience to get started.

If you’ve worked in oil and gas, power stations, construction, the armed forces, or heavy engineering, your skills are almost certainly transferable.
