Creative Recruitment Adverts: Grabbing Applicants Attention

When it comes to recruitment, we all know that it is incredibly competitive. For every job there will often by dozens, if not hundreds, of applicants. But the competition is not just limited to the applicants. Businesses up and down the country are desperate to recruit the best talent out there and standing out from the crowd is just as important to them as it is for those applying.

For that reason, some of the world's most famous brands have gone to great lengths to produce ever more creative adverts in an attempt to grab attention. Some poke fun at their rivals, some go for the shock approach, whilst others opt for a clever play on words. Below are just a few of the most creative recruitment adverts to grab our attention over the years.

McDonalds - We Don't Hire Turks

At first glance the reader is likely to be shocked by the strong statement included in their Swedish advertising campaign. - "We don't hire Turks, Greeks, Poles, Indians, Ethiopians, Vietnamese, Chinese or Peruvians". Of course, once you get to the small print, McDonalds are simply suggesting that they are not interested in what the applicants surname or nationality is - they are only interested in determined and ambitious applicants.

Apple - Close Your Windows

Coca Cola and Pepsi, McDonalds and Burger King - the world of business is full of big-name brands competing against one another for our attention and money. Well in this advertising campaign from Apple, the technology giant takes a clear swipe at rivals Microsoft with the slogan "Close your windows, open a few doors...".  It is controversial, yet witty enough to get away with.

Gap - Working In a Winter Woolly Land

Come Christmas time it is not uncommon for employers, especially retailers, to take on additional staff to cope with the rush of the festive period. When clothing store Gap decided to recruit for their stores, they took a well-known Christmas song and gave it a twist. 'Walking in a Winter Wonderland' became 'Working in a Winter Wooly Land'. A witty and seasonal attention grabber!
