Piping Design Engineer

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset, UK Type: Permanent Vacancy Reference: 26-00299

Are you a Piping Design Engineer looking to advance your career on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects?

We are seeking a talented engineer to join the team supporting the delivery of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the UK's first new nuclear power station in a generation. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with around 5 years of experience who is looking to develop their expertise within a highly regulated and technically challenging environment.

Working within the site engineering team, you will play a key role in supporting field design activities across piping systems, supports, and associated mechanical structures. You'll work closely with construction teams, installation contractors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve design and installation challenges while ensuring compliance with nuclear industry standards, quality requirements, and project milestones.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting site design activities and providing technical assessments for RFIs, field change requests, client queries, and installation issues.
  • Collaborating with construction teams, contractors, and engineering disciplines to resolve piping and support-related challenges.
  • Producing engineering assessments and recommendations for piping, supports, anchorages, and associated mechanical structures.
  • Reviewing and implementing design modifications where required to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable codes.
  • Supporting the closure of technical queries, comments, and open engineering actions.
  • Working alongside CAD designers and detailers to develop and update engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Performing piping flexibility studies, support calculations, finite element analysis (FEA), and structural calculations.
  • Providing technical support across a variety of systems including steel structures, cable trays, instrumentation supports, electrical equipment supports, and HVAC systems.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of design standards, technical guidance, and site documentation.

About You

We're looking for motivated engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems and working within collaborative project environments.

You will ideally have:

  • Degree or Master's qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in piping design, mechanical calculations, nuclear, energy, defence, process, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards including Eurocodes, ASME, and RCC-M.
  • Experience carrying out piping stress, support, and mechanical calculations.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as PIPESTRESS, ANSYS, RSTAB, PDMS, or Navisworks.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Why Join?
This is your chance to contribute to a nationally important project while developing your engineering capability alongside some of the industry's leading specialists. You'll gain exposure to complex engineering challenges, cutting-edge technologies, and long-term career opportunities within the growing nuclear sector.

If you're ready to make an impact on the future of clean energy, we'd love to hear from you.
